ABOUT
Music shaped by Cuban tradition and jazz improvisation.
About Me
Ricky Castillo is a Havana-born guitarist and composer now based in Boca Raton, Florida. His work draws from Cuban musical traditions, jazz improvisation, and contemporary Latin forms. Shaped by an early immersion in Cuban popular and folkloric music and later refined through studies with jazz guitarist Pat Martino, Castillo has developed a personal language that balances rhythmic depth, melodic clarity, and expressive restraint.
Before relocating to South Florida, Ricky spent 14 years performing professionally in New York City, where he became part of the city’s vibrant jazz and Latin music community. His projects weave son cubano, Latin jazz, bossa nova, boleros, and jazz standards into an intimate, modern framework. A central collaborator is vocalist Mayda Cuellar, a graduate of Havana’s National School of Arts. Together, they combine the cultural heritage of Havana, the artistic experience gained in New York City, and the vibrant energy of their new home in Boca Raton.
